President Kevin Tucker on a very wet day at North Dalton Park, Towradgi.
2003 Letter from inaugural President - Kevin Tucker
On Sunday 20th December 1998 I attended a meeting where the idea of a Wollongong Competition for Aussie Rules was put. With three others - Scott Holmes - Tammy Iddles and myself our club was formed. We aimed to provide another option for children to play sport rather than the alternative of getting up to mischief.
Never was it our intention to win at all costs but rather to play and enjoy a good sporting event.
Throughout the years there have been winners but right up to my last game with the club we have played all games with complete integrity and knowing that the game was the important issue - not winning at all costs.
Sadly the presentation day is the last that I will be connected with the club. Time has passed and circumstances now lead me in a different direction.
My heartfelt thanks to all who have been connected in the club in any way. We have 92 children on our books this year with nearly 200 having
played for our club. Our successes include Clinton Wells playing games for the Swans reserve grade, Adam McConnochie playing for NSW State Under 16 team.
Eight Roos currently play for the Wollongong Under 18 team that has gone so well in Division 1 in the Sydney Competition. Four boys are now qualified umpires. Four Under 15s were selected in the Sydney South team that played in Melbourne last holidays
Congratulations to the parents who turn up week in week out with training thrown in. I know the disruption this can be especially in today's frantic world. A quick note for you - the kids love it keep it up!
To all those who have given of their time and there are too many to name we could not have developed this club without your support, time and encouragement.
